The new Tesla Model X all-electric SUV has been revealed

Yesterday at Detroit Motor Show, Tesla Motors Inc. introduced the new all-wheel drive Model X. (Disclosure: Compass Global Trends owns shares of Tesla Motors Inc.)

The $132,000 P90D model will do 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. The P90D model with Tesla's rightly-named "Ludicrous" mode - an option that costs an extra $10k, bringing the price to $142,000 - brings that down to 3.2 seconds.

Sonar sensors are fitted to each door - and the car's roof - to monitor surroundings and adjust how far the doors open. The driver's door automatically opens and closes when the driver is detected. Also, Model X offers room for seven adults and their luggage in three rows of seating.

Power for the SUV comes from the same dual-electric motor setup as the Model S P85D, with the front motor offering 255bhp and the rear motor producing 496bhp - giving a combined output of 751bhp and 713b ft of torque.

Moreover, on an interview last week CEO of the company Elon Musk was asked, , when he thought the company could produce a car that can "break 1,000 kilometers" (or 620 miles) on a single charge, he said his guess would be "within a year or two," adding, "2017 for sure." Perhaps more notably, Musk is now saying that Tesla cars should have "full autonomy" in "approximately three years." "It depends on the market. Some will be more forward-leaning than others."
