Google shares grew more than 13% after the second-quarter results

Google's second-quarter results pleasantly surprised investors, sending its share price soaring more than 13 percent. Company's profits rose 17% to $3.93bn in the three months to June from the quarter last year, boosted by an 11% rise in revenues to $17.7bn. Excluding the negative impact of the strong US dollar, the revenues would have risen additional 7 percentage points.

A lot of that was due to the strict cost control measures that the company implemented, which fueled investors' expectations for higher profits. In addition, YouTube saw its mobile watch time double since June 2014. The average viewing session surpassed more than 40 minutes, up over 50 percent year to year.
